Facilities services and outsourcing firm MITIE has bagged a £30million contract with Southampton City Council to deliver energy efficiency work to more than 2,100 properties.
The initial deal is to help the council’s work on the Government’s Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) schemes over 19 months.
Contractor & Easy Green Deal customer MITIE was been named as the preferred bidder for the £1bn Southampton Green Deal job.
The programme will last up to seven years and see the firm leverage money from the government’s Energy Companies Obligation scheme and the Green Deal to conduct energy efficiency retrofit work across the Solent region.
It will also be required to do work which qualifies for other central government funding streams such as the solar Feed in Tariffs (FIT) and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
The role includes marketing the scheme, surveying properties, managing the supply chain, delivering employment opportunities, performance monitoring, securing funding and partnering arrangements.
MITIE has been appointed for an initial 19 months with the view to extending the contract for a further five and a half years following a review of costs to the council and MITIE's performance.
MITIE has said the initial contract was worth £30m.
