Scottish Power and SSE have been hit with multi-million pound fines for failing to fit thousands of homes with insulation and other energy efficiency measures.
Scottish Power will have to fork out £2.4million and SSE £1.75million: the payments will go towards charities and funds that benefit vulnerable customers.
The regulator Ofgem said the failings meant that thousands of Scottish Power customers missed out on energy efficiency measures during the cold winter of 2012/13. The company only made up its 30% shortfall by April.
The Big Six energy suppliers were all required to provide energy efficiency measures for thousands of households by December 2012
