Muswell Hill Golf Club will become the very first commercial venture to get a non-domestic Green Deal Assessment Report recorded in the United Kingdom.

The club's no cost Green Deal energy assessment, given by Haringey Council, has determined how it might cut costs and minimise its carbon footprint by making energy saving modifications to the structures.

John Brazier, Estates Committee at Muswell Hill Golf Club Chairman, stated:
"We are presently having a 5 year plan for our golf club to cover every aspect of the club and this seemed like a great chance to try and minimise heating charges and protect the environment by reduction of our energy consumption.

"We will study the report and find out if we should include any of the recommendations into our improvement plan"

Joe Goldberg, Cabinet Member for Finance and Sustainability, said:
"It's great to see a local business getting involved and making use of the Green Deal. We're eager to do business with employers to help minimize their bills and support our plans to make Haringey the greenest borough, decreasing our carbon footprint by 40% by 2020."

The Green Deal is a fresh way for people and firms to finance setting up of energy saving measures including advanced heating controls or insulating walls, with no upfront fees as the loan instalments are made from the savings made on energy bills.

A Green Deal Assessment is the initial step along the way and for a limited period Haringey Council can give these free of charge - the fee (worth £350-£1,800) is included by DECC Green Deal Pioneer Places funding.

Following the evaluation companies are provided with a report recommending power saving measures they can install that could be financed and done by authorised Green Deal providers.

There is absolutely no obligation to carry out any of the recommendations or take out a Green Deal.

Businesses could also take benefit of free support from Green Light North London who can supply 12 hours free support to help you with the green deal approach or to evaluate methods to minimize water and waste bills.
